Gods Gift

Roman comedy meets Irish mayhem in the latest production from the Barabbas ensemble. God's Gift is a new version, by the noted Irish author John Banville, of the classic comedy Amphitryon, which was first staged over 2000 years ago.

The Roman Empire has run its course. Jupiter, the greatest of the gods, and Mercury, his son and sidekick, cruise through time and place in pursuit of diversion. And where do they end up but Vinegar Hill, where tired old Jupiter re-ignites the flames of passion — in the bed of Lady Ashburningham, the wife of the Irish general.

Barabbas... the company was founded in 1993 and is one of Ireland's most acclaimed theatre ensembles. They have performed their work — which ranges from devised productions to new plays to productions of the classics — throughout Ireland, and recently returned from a world tour of their hit production of Lennox Robinson's The Whiteheaded Boy.

In association with the eircom Dublin theatre festival.
