Alice Triolgy Tilt

“‘It’s no use trying,’ said Alice, ‘one cannot believe in impossible things.’ ‘You haven’t been practising,’ said the White Queen.”

Meet Alice, a dreamer and self-professed stupid housewife with three stupid children and an extremely stupid husband. Follow her through three ages: 1980, as a young woman, already married, already bored with family life, Famous Grouse whisky ‘disguising’ her coffee; 1995, enjoying an encounter with an old flame; and, ten years later, when the worst has happened.

Tom Murphy’s latest play exquisitely charts the life of Alice, a woman lost in her own wonderland. With three finely wrought portraits, he allows us to share, as intimates, the ‘strange, savage, beautiful and mysterious country’ inside her.

The Abbey Theatre has a unique association with Tom Murphy and is delighted to present the Irish première of this haunting and humorous new work.

"A STRANGE, POETIC, POIGNANT STUDY OF A LIFE HALF LIVED” - Michael Billington, The Guardian

"EXPEDITION INTO NEW STYLISTIC TERRITORY” - Fintan O’Toole, The Irish Times

"THE MOST DISTINCTIVE, THE MOST RESTLESS, THE MOST OBSESSIVE IMAGINATION IN THE IRISH THEATRE TODAY” - Brian Friel
