Straight from Chicago, America's comedy capital, comes Hellcab, the hilarious and harrowing story of an average day behind the wheel for a big-city taxi driver. Our hero sees and hears it all - marital woes, unexpected connections, missed opportunities, even murder threats - in his honest pursuit of his daily bread.

Seven actors take on 25 roles in this fast-paced and very funny slice of urban life which all takes place in Chicago.

To know a city, they say, one should look in its prisons and hospitals. You could also drive a cab...

Will Kern
Hellcab is Will Kern's most famous play. It opened in Chicago in 1992 and is still running at the Famous Door Theatre. The play has also been produced at numerous locations across the United States, including Los Angeles, where it won The LA Weekly Theatre Award for Best Comedy Writing in 1996. In Edinburgh it won a Fringe First and the cast for the Dublin performances includes many of the original members of the cast. Shooting on the film adaptation of Hellcab, featuring Gillian Anderson and adapted by Kern, has been completed and the film is scheduled for release later in the year. Other plays by Kern include Skeletons and Elvis

"Perfectly Chicago, and perfect in its way, is the in-your-face and warm-your heart theatre of Hellcab....a real joy ride" The Chicago Tribune

"Kern has faithfully captured the open-faced trust of prairie people, Midwesterners who are acquainted with adversity but who still maintain an awe of the world around them...he has created a theatre that is more a mirror to, then a window into, the national soul" Los Angeles Weekly
