One of the leading theatre artists of our age brings his compelling vision to Ireland for the first time. Howard Barker directs his 1986 play Scenes from an Execution, an unexpectedly comic exploration of the timeless theme of the artist's struggle for free expression. In the role of the artist Galactia, Barker has created one of the most challenging women's roles in contemporary theatre, here played by the Olivier Award-winner Kathryn Hunter, well known from her many performances with Théâtre de Complicite. She brings to life Galactia's struggle to paint a work which depicts the true brutality and horror of war, a project that pits her against the Venetian authorities who have commissioned her.

Please note: Buses, courtesy of Dublin Bus, run between the City Centre and the theatre before and after each performance. Please ask at the Box office for details.

"There is no such thing as a minor Howard Barker play. He packs more into the slenderest dramas than most playwrights manage in an epic". The Guardian
