Critics and audiences hailed Cloudstreet as the theatre event of the decade when it premiered at the Sydney and Perth Festivals in 1998. Queues formed nightly for the sell-out epic, a magical piece of theatre that takes audiences on a twenty-year odyssey in the lives of two families- the feckless Pickles and the cautious Lambs - brought together by post-war poverty and various comic-tragic circumstances in a rickety old Perth mansion.

Like the country it comes from, Cloudstreet is expansive. A cast of fourteen actors play some forty characters in this five-hour long marathon. Humane, chaotic, theatrical, funny-sad, Cloudstreet is a seminal festival experience.

Presented with the financial support of the Australia Council, the 1999 Olympic Arts Festival - Reaching the World - Arts NSW, Arts WA and the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade.
