Pinter new

Harold Pinter is one of our renowned living dramatists. His illustrious career encompasses stage, screen and radio, and accomplishments include acting and directing as well as writing. Complex scenes and a distinctive cryptic style in his work has added the terms Pinteresque and Pinter pauses to our contemporary lexicon.

The Gate Theatre has a unique association with the work of Harold Pinter, having already presented three festivals of the writer's work: two in Dublin (1994 and 1997) and one in New York (2001). The festivals could not have taken place without the active participation of Harold Pinter, who has both acted and directed at the Gate.

To mark the author's 75th birthday this year (October 10th), the Gate plan a celebration which will include productions of Old Times and Betrayal, and a series of events in partnership with the Dublin Theatre Festival, including films, workshops, poetry, prose and play readings by the playwright himself, with a host of well known actors who are associated with his work.

Who actually saw Odd Man Out and with whom? A tense, compact and funny account of the fallibility of memory and the urge to possess the past. In a converted farmhouse a filmmaker and a female guest enact a primal battle of ownership over the body of his wife.
