Radio Macbeth Show Image
Late at night in the guts of an abandoned theatre, a group of 1940s radio actors struggle to rehearse Shakespeare’s briefest and perhaps most magnetic play. They circle restlessly around the shared warmth of a rehearsal table, while around them the ghosts of all previous productions hover in the gloom, each with an axe to grind. As the spirits of ambition and violence encroach, the actors cling to the sanity of words in a desperate bid to dispel the furies.
Two-time Obie Award-winning director, Anne Bogart, is particularly noted for her illuminating reconsiderations of Shakespeare’s plays. Her co-director, Darron L West, has created an extraordinarily vivid sound environment reminiscent of the era of 1940’s live radio plays, creating yet another spell-binding dimension to this intriguing production.
"It will bring theatre lovers to their knees" The New York Sun.
What Do We Think?
A rare, intelligent and thrilling take on one of Shakespeare’s best loved plays, performed by a remarkable ensemble on top form, famously trained in their unique Viewpoints and Suzuki technique.
