Ellen Cranitch began her professional life as a flute player with the NSO, the RTE Concert Orchestra, and numerous chamber ensembles. Her interest in jazz and improvised music led to collaborations with leading jazz musicians, and eventually to composing for theatre, film and dance. She has created scores for CoisCéim, The Abbey Theatre, B*spoke, Rough Magic, and she has made several radio documentaries for RTE on arts subjects. She produced the recent film documentary ‘88 Strings Attached’, about Irish piano tuners in Cuba for Al Jazeera television, and she presents the twice weekly traditional music programme, Grace Notes, for RTE Lyric FM.
