Marilyn Cutts

Marilyn graduated from Manchester University, took a postgraduate diploma in Drama, and then joined Derby Playhouse Theatre-in Education and Studio Company. She has since worked with companies all over Great Britain and Ireland. West End credits include Godspell!, Oliver!, Design for Living, The Mystery of Edwin Drood, What a Performance with David Suchet and Julie in the award winning production of Showboat at the London Palladium.

A founder member of the group Fascinating Aida, she appeared with them on numerous television and radio shows before leaving to pursue a solo career in 1986. Favourite roles since then have included Mrs Lovett in Sweeney Todd  (Bristol Old Vic, The Wythenshawe Forom and Salisbury Playhouse); Doris in Same Time Next Year (Farnham) and Piaf in PIAF (Tyne and Wear Theatre Company). A Sondheim fanatic, she played Fay Apple in the British Premier of Anyone Can Whistle at Cheltenham and the Baker's Wife in Into the Woods at the Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich, which won the 'Best Production' category in the Martini Regional Theatres Awards for 1991-92.

Marilyn has also been extending her work into the field of Opera, playing Despina in Music Theatre London's production of Cosi Fan Tutte and Annina in La Traviata for the same company. This was also filmed for NDR, the German TV channel. She is continuing her vocal training with Peter Harrison.

She appeared in What a Performance at the Plymouth Theatre Royal and in London, played Miss Skillien in See How They Run at Oldham Coliseum and went on to play Maman in The Red Ballon at Birmingham Rep. She recorded the narration for an episode of the Network Series series of documentaries for Yorkshire Television and completed a tour of Great Britain playing Conchita in COPACABANA. She went on to play Lady Capulet in Romeo and Juliet at the Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich and played Lady Raeburn on a national tour of Salad Days. She appeared in Nymph Errant at Chichester, prior to which she worked on the Royal National Theatre production of  which transferred to the Lyceum Theatre and has also been filmed.

Most recently she appeared in Cameron Mackintosh's production of Oliver! playing Mrs Sowerberry in its hugely successful Toronto season.
