Gerhard Marx

Gerhard received his MA (FA) Cum Laude from Wits School of Art, 2004 and graduated from the Michaelis School of Fine Arts, where he was awarded the Simon Gerson Prize and The Michaelis Award.

Since graduating he has had three solo exhibitions and has participated in numerous group exhibitions. His involvement with the theatre started with the Handspring Puppet Company's The Chimp Project in 2000. His collaboration with Lara Foot Newton began in 2001, with Beckett's Waiting For Godot and during 2002 on A Streetcar Named Desire.

Gerhard's debut as both writer and director, has been performed to great acclaim to audiences at the Grahamstown Festival and The Wits Amphitheatre, Johannesburg. Gerhard currently lectures in the Department of Dramatic Arts at Wits. He is a two-time Naledi Award winner.
